Maintain Proper Engine Alignment

One of the most important requirements for keeping engines and compressors free from damage to bearings, crankshafts, mainframes and other equipment parts is the ability to achieve and maintain proper engine alignment.

Many of the repairs that Reynolds-French has made over the years are due to problems that can be traced to improper alignment.

MISALIGNMENT IS THE GREATEST SINGLE CONTRIBUTOR TO HEAVY EQUIPMENT DAMAGE.

On-Site or In-Shop Crankshaft Repairs

On site crankshaft rod journal machining, polishing, and shaft straightening saves expensive downtime and costly disassembly.

All crankshafts are checked for straightness and inspected for cracks before any repairs are started. Bent shafts are cold straightened in the engine before crankpins are turned, then checked again before the job is completed.

Reynolds-French has the capability to machine rod journals on site from 7″ diameter to 14 1/2″ diameter. Crankshaft flanges and flywheel fit refacing are also covered with this service. On request, special undersized bearings can be furnished.

We have the expertise to visually inspect crankshafts for general condition, to Magnaflux and black light for finding hard-to-find cracks, to check for crankshaft runout (straightness). Our team will evaluate and make recommendations for crankshaft rod journal turning, polishing, straightening, removal to outside shop, or to simply put back into service.

Reynolds-French’s expert technicians can also check for frame alignment with wire line.

Line Boring

Maximizing Engine Life

Line boring and alignment are two critical service functions of Reynolds-French that go hand in hand. For example, most engines that need to be line bored are in need of alignment, first.

Most engine frames can be machined, caps sized and fit, and line bored to standard dimensions. This saves the cost of stocking oversized bearings.
